Not on their own. Ice dams form when attic heat melts snow that refreezes at the cold roof edge. What good gutters do is hold up to the weight, drain meltwater on warm days, and keep water away from the house. Yes. Tear-off and haul-away is part of the job. We also check the fascia boards behind the old gutters, because rot there is common on older Mohawk Valley homes. If boards need replacing, it is itemized in your quote before any work starts.

With reasonable care, seamless aluminum gutters commonly last 20 years or more. The biggest factors are hanger quality and spacing, keeping them clear of debris, and making sure downspouts drain freely so water does not sit and freeze.
